The One Night Ultimate Werewolf app vs a classic Werewolf app
Updated · Werewolf Narrator
The verdict
The One Night Ultimate Werewolf app is Bézier Games' free narrator for its one-round game. You tick the roles you're using, it calls the night in order, then times the discussion. You still need the physical cards. With no cards, or more than 10 players, play classic Werewolf with a browser narrator instead.

What is One Night Ultimate Werewolf?
A one-round social deduction game for 3 to 10 players by Ted Alspach and Akihisa Okui, published by Bézier Games in 2014. The base box has 16 cards: 2 Werewolves, 3 Villagers, a Seer, Robber, Troublemaker, Tanner, Drunk, Hunter, 2 Masons, an Insomniac, a Minion and a Doppelganger.
Each player gets a card and three go face down in the middle. Roles wake once each, and several of them swap cards, so you can end the night on a different team without knowing it. Then everyone talks and points at the same moment. The most-voted player dies; ties all die, unless everyone got exactly one vote, in which case nobody does. The village wins if a werewolf dies. If both werewolves are in the middle, the village needs nobody to die. The Tanner wins if he's the one killed.
What does the One Night Ultimate Werewolf app do?
The app is called One Night, made by Bézier and free on the App Store. Select the cards in play, start it, and a voice puts everyone to sleep, wakes each role with time to act, then wakes the table and runs the discussion timer.
- Works with One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Daybreak, Vampire, Alien and Super Villains, in any mix.
- Handles long night orders, which is where a human reading from the rulebook usually slips.
- Doesn't deal roles or track votes. The cards stay on the table and you vote by pointing.
It's a companion to the box, not a digital version of the game.
Which werewolf app should you pick?
| Your situation | Pick |
|---|---|
| You own One Night or an expansion | The official One Night app |
| You own QR-coded Ultimate Werewolf cards (2021 or later) | Bézier's Ultimate Werewolf Moderator app |
| No cards, and you want classic Werewolf or Mafia | A browser narrator such as ours |
| 3 or 4 people | One Night |
| 11 or more people | Classic Werewolf |
| Lots of quick games in one evening | One Night |
| One long game with a story that builds | Classic Werewolf |
One Night keeps everyone in until the end, which suits restless groups and mixed ages. Classic Werewolf makes the dead sit out but pays off with longer arguments, comebacks and a final showdown. Plenty of groups run One Night while people arrive, then switch to the classic game.
If you go classic, the Ultimate Werewolf rules and our setups by player count cover the deck, and how to play Werewolf covers the basics. For other games in the same family, see the best social deduction games.
Questions people ask
