How the Bodyguard works
Each night the Bodyguard chooses one player to guard. If the Mafia attack that player, the Bodyguard dies in their place and the target survives.
It's a one-time sacrifice: a Bodyguard who saves someone is gone. Played well, it keeps the Detective alive for the nights that matter.
How to play the Bodyguard
- 1.Guard a claimed Detective. Trading yourself for the town's best information is a great deal.
- 2.Don't reveal yourself. A known Bodyguard just tells the Mafia who to avoid.
- 3.If you're guarding someone, watch how the Mafia act after your death; the save itself is a clue.
Playing against the Bodyguard
- 1.When a death isn't the person you expected, a Bodyguard may have stepped in. Ask who they were guarding.
- 2.As Mafia, kill around the obvious targets for a night or two to waste the Bodyguard's protection.
- 3.A Bodyguard's death confirms the target was innocent, which can help the Mafia frame someone else.
The most common mistake
Guarding the loudest player. Protect the players with real information, not the ones with the most opinions.
Playing with the app
The app's Mafia theme deals the Mafia, Detective, Doctor and Civilians. The Bodyguard is a popular extra for groups playing with a human moderator.
Questions about the Bodyguard
How is the Bodyguard different from the Doctor?
The Doctor saves someone and survives. The Bodyguard saves someone by dying in their place.
Can the Bodyguard guard themselves?
No. Their power only works on another player.
Is the Bodyguard in the Werewolf Narrator app?
Not yet. The app's Doctor covers the same job, without the sacrifice.
