How the Doctor works

Each night the Doctor wakes and chooses one player to protect. If the Mafia target that player, nobody dies and the moderator announces a quiet night.

Most groups stop the Doctor protecting the same player two nights in a row, and the app enforces that rule. Many allow the Doctor to protect themselves.

Playing Werewolf instead? The same job belongs to the Doctor.

How to play the Doctor

1.Protect whoever the Mafia most want dead: a claimed Detective, or the player leading the town's best theory.
2.Stay quiet about your saves at first. Announcing the role makes you the next target.
3.If there's a peaceful night, don't rush to claim credit. Let the Mafia wonder whether it was luck.

Playing against the Doctor

1.As Mafia, pick targets the Doctor won't expect, not just the obvious threat.
2.A quiet night means the Doctor guessed right. Think about who they would have protected, and you may find them.
3.Bait the Doctor: let the town think someone is the Detective, then kill elsewhere.

The most common mistake

Protecting yourself every night. You survive, but the town loses the players who actually matter.

Questions about the Doctor

Can the Doctor save themselves?

In most rule sets, yes. In the app the Doctor can choose anyone alive, but not the same player two nights running.

What happens if the Doctor saves the Mafia's target?

Nobody dies that night. The narrator announces that the town woke up to no deaths.

Is the Doctor the same in Werewolf?

Yes. Werewolf uses the same Doctor role, sometimes called the Bodyguard or Protector.
