How the Civilian works
Civilians sleep through the night. They have no secret information and no special power, just their vote and their judgement.
Because they're the majority, Civilians decide most eliminations. The town wins when every member of the Mafia is gone; the Civilians' job is to make sure the right people are voted out.
Playing Werewolf instead? The same job belongs to the Villager.
How to play the Civilian
- 1.Talk. A silent Civilian is useless to the town and suspicious to everyone.
- 2.Track the votes. Who voted for whom is the only hard evidence a Civilian gets.
- 3.Don't fake a power role unless the town needs a shield. It confuses your real Detective and Doctor.
Playing against the Civilian
- 1.As Mafia, Civilians are the safest players to blend in with, so act like one.
- 2.Push Civilians to vote against each other. Every innocent elimination is a free kill.
- 3.Watch for Civilians who are tracking votes carefully; they'll find you eventually.
The most common mistake
Voting with the crowd to stay safe. Bandwagons are exactly how the Mafia win.
Questions about the Civilian
Is Civilian a boring role?
It's the role that wins the game. Without powers, Civilians are free to be loud, test theories and push votes.
How many Civilians should there be?
Most of the table. Keep special roles to a third of the players or fewer so claims are hard to verify.
Is a Civilian the same as a Villager?
Yes. The Civilian in Mafia is the Villager in Werewolf.
