Werewolf roles for 17 players
For 17 players, use 4 Werewolves, 7 Villagers, Seer, Doctor, Witch, Hunter, Cupid, Little Girl. It's the mix the Werewolf Narrator app deals on auto-balance, and it plays in about 50–70 minutes. New to the game? Start with how to play Werewolf.
The 17-player setup
Why this balance works
4 werewolfs against 13 villagers. With fewer wolves the village finds them too easily; with more, the wolves reach equal numbers after only a couple of votes.
6 special roles (Seer, Doctor, Witch, Hunter, Cupid, Little Girl) give the village a fighting chance: information from the Seer, protection from the Doctor, and so on.
7 plain villagers keep it uncertain. If everyone had a power, claims would be easy to check and the wolves would have nowhere to hide.
At night the narrator calls: Werewolf, Seer, Doctor, Witch, Cupid.
Adjusting the difficulty
- New group? Drop the Little Girl and Cupid; they add chaos before people know the basics.
- Wolves winning too often? Add a Doctor or Witch, or swap a werewolf for a villager.
- Village winning too easily? Turn off role reveals on death so nobody knows who was eliminated.
Questions
How many werewolves for 17 players?
4 werewolfs. That keeps the wolves at roughly one in 4 players, enough to be dangerous without winning by numbers alone.
Can 17 people play Werewolf without a narrator?
Yes. Usually one person has to sit out to run the game, but a narrator app reads the night script aloud, so all 17 of you can play.
How long does a 17-player game of Werewolf take?
Usually 50–70 minutes, depending on how long your group debates each day.
